LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 2004
At BAI TransPay 2004, Panini, a global provider of check processing solutions, today announced that Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) has selected the Panini My Vision X as the exclusive front-counter image capture device for its check processing solution. Unisys will market the product, worldwide as Unisys My Vision X, to enable banks to convert paper checks to digital images at the teller window, which significantly improves item accessibility and reduces paper-related costs.
"After review of their product capabilities, the Panini technology emerged as the clear leader in teller-side solutions," said Gary Wallen, vice president and general manager of Payment Systems for Unisys. "The addition of a front-counter device complements our full suite of item processing products, and provides maximum flexibility for customers developing their Check 21 strategies."
With Panini's expertise integrated into its offering, Unisys now provides check processing solution options for every channel from the teller window to the very depths of the financial institution's back-office operations.
Financial institutions, faced with vast industry changes encouraged by Check Truncation act for the 21st century (Check 21) legislation in the U.S., are looking for ways to improve their operations to take advantage of electronic images instead of paper. Using the Unisys My Vision X teller scanner, a financial institution can capture the item and convert it to an image when it is first presented, resulting in reduced paper handling costs and faster, more efficient processing.
The compact check scanner, designed for front and back counter use, recognizes codelines, captures front and rear images and prints customized endorsement information. The Unisys My Vision X teller scanner also includes:
-- Superior image quality for effective implementation of
recognition engines;
-- Flexible rear ink-jet endorse for printing audit trail
alphanumeric characters or logos;
-- MICRPlus(TM), a proven, high-quality magnetic ink character
(MICR) reading for reliable electronic check conversion; and
-- Infrared double document detection capability for improved
operator throughput.
"Panini North America and Unisys Corporation were able to come to an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) agreement for the Panini My Vision X product line, which is very exciting," said Dave Youngerman, president of Panini North America. "It is extremely important for us to align with a proven industry leader like Unisys who shares our vision and product strategy for Check 21 implementation."
"Building on long term experience in item processing through the development and manufacturing of high speed reader sorters and strong relationships with financial institutions worldwide, the My Vision X was created as the solution of choice for branch image capture," said Ugo Panini, president of Panini SpA. "We look forward to working with Unisys on an on-going basis to service this new evolution in image enabled check processing."
