MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 2004
NBC-TV News Analyst Will Address Area
Professionals on Cyber Security
Cygnus Expositions today announced that Roger Cressey will replace his business colleague Richard Clarke as a keynote speaker for this year's Strictly Business Technology Expo in Minneapolis. Cressey's presentation will take place on Wednesday June 9 at 1 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Cressey will educate participants on emerging cyber security standards and their potential impact on business. A congressional committee is examining whether the SEC should require public filings of the state of a company's cyber risk profile, similar to the Y2K filings that were required in 1999. Cyber security standards are already emerging in health care, banking, insurance, finance, electric power and telecommunication, yet companies are frequently unable to buy secure software from vendors. Cressey's will address such issues as: Do security standards help security and, if so, who should develop them? What is the appropriate burden sharing among the enterprise and the vendors they rely upon?
An NBC-TV news counterterrorism analyst, Cressey is president of Good Harbor, an advisory service firm that counsels clients on homeland security, critical infrastructure protection, cyber security and counterterrorism. Richard Clarke is the firm's chairman. Cressey previously served as Chief of Staff to the president's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board at the White House. He has also served as Director for Transnational Threats on the National Security Council staff, where he was responsible for coordination and implementation of U.S. counterterrorism policy. He managed the U.S. government's response to the Millennium terror alert, the USS COLE attack, and the September 11 attacks. He has also served overseas with the U.S. Embassy in Israel and with United Nations peacekeeping missions in Somalia and the former Yugoslavia, where he was part of a United Nations team that planned the successful capture of the first individual indicted for war crimes in Croatia.
