WATERTOWN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 24, 2004
OATSystems, Inc., the leading provider of software for the High-Resolution Supply Chain(TM), today announced that its flagship OAT EPC-IS Edge Server has been successfully deployed by HP, to track cases of printer cartridges from a manufacturing site to a distribution center.
OAT EPC-IS Edge Server 3.0 is enabling HP to track cases of printer cartridges with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to manage the flow of goods across its supply chain lifecycle. By tracking each individual case as it travels through HP's internal supply chain, OAT is enabling HP to dramatically improve supply chain efficiencies at its manufacturing site and separate distribution center in Virginia.
"As an early adopter of RFID in its own supply chain operations, HP is experiencing, firsthand, the benefits of being able to track the location of individual cases in real-time with OAT EPC-IS Edge Server," said Prasad Putta, CEO of OAT. "The technology allows companies like HP to optimize manufacturing and distribution operations."
The OAT solution enables HP to track printer cartridges from the beginning of packaging operations, to the point of shipment and in the future, to a retail store. By providing end-to-end visibility across HP's manufacturing and distribution facilities, OAT is helping HP identify and reduce waste and inefficiency in the areas of shipping, receiving, order accuracy and inventory management.
"OAT software creates a high-resolution view of our supply chain, enabling greater efficiency and enhanced customer service by ensuring the optimal flow of product straight through from production to final customer delivery," said Ian Robertson, director of RFID at HP. "HP is unique in that the company utilizes RFID technology in its own supply chain, while also providing RFID services to other businesses. Working with OAT provides us with insight into the end-user experience, and enables us to offer our customers a comprehensive range of RFID consulting and integration services."
