CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 25, 2004

The Dow Transports have held their March lows. Richard Moroney explains the importance of this as it pertains to the Dow Theory, and also highlights several quality companies at good prices. Read about Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), MBNA (NYSE:KRB), Delphi Financial (NYSE:DFG), and Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ:SIAL). Here are the highlights from the Featured Expert column:

Unlike the Dow Industrials, the Dow Transports have managed to hold their March low. If the Transports close below that low, 2750.80, the Dow Theory will shift into the bearish camp. The Dow Theory assigns equal importance to the Industrials and Transports. Unless both averages confirm a bull- or bear market signal, the primary trend is viewed as unchanged.

Some quality companies are available at good prices. Buys include

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) is engaged in the manufacture and sale of a broad range of products in the health care field in many countries of the world.

MBNA (NYSE:KRB) through MBNA America Bank, N.A., is an independent credit card lender and is an issuer of affinity credit cards, marketed primarily to members of associations and customers of financial institutions.

Delphi Financial (NYSE:DFG) is a holding company whose subsidiaries provide integrated employee benefit services. The Company manages all aspects of employee absence to enhance the productivity of its clients and provides the related insurance coverages: long-term and short-term disability, excess and primary workers' compensation, group life and travel accident.

Analysts' Choice: Sigma-Aldrich has growth down to a science

One of the oldest and best-known providers of laboratory products, Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ:SIAL) holds attractive niches in the rebounding health-sciences industry. The company has been relying on currency gains and improved profit margins to sustain growth, but near-term revenue growth should benefit from continued global expansion, acquisitions, and improved sales efforts. Margins should remain on an upswing, and internal sales growth should pick up in 2005 because of improving industry demand. At 17 times expected 2004 earnings of $3.26 per share, the stock trades in line with its five-year valuation range and at a discount to its peer-group average.
