Xybernaut Corporation and IBSS Educate Government Agencies On How They
Can Gain RFID Experience and Benefits Today With Synapse(TM) RFID;
An RFID Starter Kit Now Available on GSA Schedule Though Xybernaut
Integrated Business Systems and Services, Inc. (IBSS) (OTCBB:IBSS) today announced that the Company is scheduled to participate in the upcoming 8th Annual International Conference on Wearable Computing (ICWC) to be held in Washington, D.C. at the Washington Convention Center on June 2, 2004. Sponsored by Xybernaut Corporation (Nasdaq:XYBR), the ICWC is being held in conjunction with the McGraw-Hill Companies Homeland Security Summit and Exposition 2004.
The Synapse(TM) RFID offering, now available on GSA Schedule through Xybernaut, is utilized to reliably and cost effectively track the real-time movement and location of assets, including people assets. The attachment of the RFID tags to assets or people (ID badges) allows both their movement and the direction of that movement to be tracked passively as they move through "portals" such as hallways, doors, gates, etc. The unique features and functionality of the Synapse(TM) RFID solution has specific application to numerous areas in healthcare and homeland security.
The Synapse(TM) RFID solution has been certified for use with Perioperative Solutions(TM) software from Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:MEDW) to track and record in real-time the movement of medical equipment and personnel in and out of operating rooms. The Synapse(TM) RFID solution was showcased fully integrated with Perioperative Solutions(TM) software in Mediware's exhibit at the Hospital Information Management Systems and Society (HIMSS) and at the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) shows held in Orlando, Florida and San Diego, California in March of 2004.
Jeff Karp, Vice President of Mediware Information Systems' Perioperative Solutions Division, stated, "By taking advantage of RFID technology, Mediware is able to help hospitals improve quality and reduce costs. Through our partnership with IBSS, we are able to demonstrate how Mediware's Perioperative Solutions(TM) and IBSS' Synapse(TM) RFID technology can help hospitals to free up nursing time and improve the Operating Report and clinical knowledgebase. As an industry leader, Mediware is also exploring other possible operating room revenue enhancement opportunities based on capturing the actual time key equipment and personnel are spending in the operating room."
The Synapse(TM) RFID solution features a combination active/passive RFID tag that contains identification information that is transmitted to the reader and software system when the tag passes by an antenna. The system records the information from the tag, along with the date, time, and direction of movement, as a case "event". The system then applies business rules in real-time to this "event" and then executes the appropriate transaction - this is all accomplished passively as the assets move. The Synapse(TM) software framework for RFID allows the system to give a real time, enterprise-wide view of all activity being tracked, as well as, be easily integrated with other legacy systems. The Synapse(TM) RFID system is easy to use and install while giving the benefits of high read accuracy and speed. The system's use of very low power and low frequencies allow success in even the most radio frequency sensitive environments.
Dr. Steven Newman, President and Chief Operating Officer of Xybernaut, noted, "Lower costs, coupled with technology's ability to keep track of things from cradle to grave, have caused the GSA to mandate the use of RFID to help track and manage information on buildings, fleets of cars and myriad products it oversees. This mandate is creating a groundswell of demand for comprehensive RFID technologies that can be quickly and cost effectively integrated into existing IT infrastructure. As such, we believe that the Synapse(TM) RFID solution represents best-of-breed technology that will prove to be very popular among attendees at the ICWC."
George Mendenhall, Chief Executive Officer of IBSS, added, "Working in tandem with technology leaders, such as Xybernaut, Mediware, and USMS, empowers IBSS to leverage our respective areas of expertise to deliver comprehensive, total solutions to both government and industry customers. We are looking forward to demonstrating this unique solution at the upcoming ICWC and expect to provide additional details on new customer deployments in the near future."
With this announcement, Government customers are offered this solution via Xybernaut's GSA listing awarded by the General Services Administration (GSA) for radio-frequency identification technologies. Xybernaut has made it easy for a government agency to get started with RFID by offering a Synapse(TM) RFID bundle, which includes everything needed to fully test and deploy live applications for agencies who want to quickly gain benefits and experience with RFID.
