Symmetricom Launches TimeWatch; New Software Product Expands Sync Network Monitoring Capability
Business Wire, Nov 1, 2004
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Symmetricom (Nasdaq:SYMM) a leading worldwide supplier of network synchronization and timing solutions and atomic clocks, today announced the introduction of TimeWatch(TM), a software-based round-the-clock network synchronization quality monitoring system. TimeWatch is designed to allow telecommunication network operators to effectively monitor the quality of network synchronization of many hundreds of links, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
High quality timing and synchronization is an essential infrastructure component for the reliable transmission of voice, video and data in next-generation networks. Today, permanent synchronization quality monitoring is only possible for the small number of transmission sites where Synchronization Supply Units (SSUs) are deployed. Poor synchronization in telecommunication networks causes service degradation and even failure. Operators that place a strategic emphasis on service quality need to monitor synchronization behavior network-wide.
"Symmetricom continues to innovate in the field of network synchronization for the telecommunications industry," said Gurdip Jande, senior vice-president of marketing for Symmetricom's Telecom Solutions Division. "We brought TimeWatch to market in response to specific customer requirements for sync quality assurance. Our customers are realizing the importance of synchronization in next-generation networks."
TimeWatch offers the ability to precisely locate and quickly respond to alarms, which minimizes network downtime. The architecture consists of "probes" that are deployed at sites requiring synchronization monitoring and a server that performs fault, configuration and performance management functions. TimeWatch will be available to purchase the first quarter of 2005.
