Vault Releases New Employee Surveys on Oracle

Business Wire, Nov 2, 2004

NEW YORK -- New York research firm Vault has just published new employee surveys on software giant Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) -- providing "insider" information on corporate culture, compensation and hiring practices at the company.

To see surveys excerpts, go here: http://www.vault.com/go/to.jsp?place=31157.

Vault's employee surveys are designed to give investors and jobseekers insight into Oracle, which yesterday raised its hostile takeover bid for competitor PeopleSoft (NASDAQ: PSFT) -- and for job seekers, the edge in this tough recruiting climate.

Among the aspects of the company highlighted by the surveys is Oracle's strongly entrepreneurial and unstructured work environment.

Says one marketing director, "There are literally NO processes or procedures for getting work done -- the practice is one of do whatever it takes and run over whoever you have to to stay employed. Most importantly, beyond database development, everything is catch as catch can, and again, no standards or processes."

Another director says, "The best way to look at Oracle is to consider that your are self-employed within a 40,000 employee company and that the other 39,999 consider themselves self-employed too. This means: you have to take charge for yourself, your job, the reward that goes with it."

As for the reward at Oracle, one employee notes that "Oracle is stingy with options -- they are distributed from management, who can keep what they want and pass along what they want, so they're kept at the top," but that the firm has terrific benefits: "I paid about $6 a month for a terrific health plan including dental and vision."
