ZiLOG(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:ZILG) the creator of the Z80 microprocessor and a leading innovator of integrated 8-bit microcontroller solutions, today announced the availability of its Smart Flash Programmer portfolio of in-circuit Flash microcontroller (MCU) programming software, designed to support customers in production with programming needs and field programming updates.
Smart Flash Programmer is an easy to use tool available to customers as a free download from the ZiLOG website (www.zilog.com), providing a simple way to program Flash MCUs during the production stage. Initially, two products are being launched by ZiLOG:
--The Z8 Encore! Smart Flash Programmer covers both the Z8 Encore!(R) and Z8 Encore! XP(TM) MCUs;
--The eZ80Acclaim! Smart Flash Programmer caters for the eZ80Acclaim!(TM) MCU family.

"Quite simply, it runs on any Windows-based PC (laptop or desktop) and has a very easy Graphical User Interface. The Smart Flash Programmer utilizes the same Smart Cables (serial, Ethernet, or USB) to communicate with the target as ZDS. The Benefit to the customer is that they can go from development to production instantly, saving both time and money. This is ideal for low-volume production or field programming updates. We believe that offering the Smart Flash Programmer free of charge and giving the customer more options and choices adds value to our core customer proposition."
Smart Flash Programmer Features:
--PC-based software utility tool
--Easy to use GUI interface in a production environment
--Uses existing Debug cables or one of ZiLOG's Smart Cables (serial, Ethernet, or USB) as the connection between the PC and the production unit
--Programs Flash using the standard hex file selected from a set of files created with a development tool such as ZDS and stored on the PC
--Enables multiple hex files to be programmed at one time
--Allows one-step Flash programming
--Auto-senses the connection to the production unit and indicates that Flash memory is ready to be programmed
--Provides indication of progress during programming and verifies that it has been programmed correctly
--Allows for the set up of serialization for programming a Flash memory location with a unique number over a range of values
