Executive Producer Mandates Re-Editing of Series CHEATERS to Reflect Television Industry Concerns
Business Wire, Nov 23, 2004
DALLAS -- In light of heightened awareness of the suitability of television program content, Bobby Goldstein, Creator and Executive Producer of the broadcast television series CHEATERS(R), has ordered the nearly 100 existing episodes to be reviewed for appropriateness. The series' production team will screen every show of the first five seasons and will re-edit each one where it is deemed necessary. The pro-active endeavor reflects industry concern over confusion and uncertainty created by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and what the current Commission finds as acceptable viewing content.
"As we go forward with the CHEATERS weekly episodes and our new daily strip programming, we must adapt the content to protect our stations' needs," said Goldstein in making the announcement. "The original concept of Cheaters is not changing. It is reality programming at its best. People are still fascinated by watching people caught in the act of cheating on their partners," added Goldstein.
Since the Fall of 1999, the CHEATERS surveillance cameras have followed actual true stories, filmed live, documenting the pain of the spouse or a lover caused by infidelity. The series has been so successful that in the Fall of 2004, CHEATERS began broadcasting a weekday strip version of the series.
"Bobby Goldstein and the CHEATERS production team have taken a significant step by reviewing existing content and responding to the quickly changing regulatory climate," said Dick Perin, President of MG/Perin, Inc., referring to the uncertainty by the FCC in stating clear guidelines. "The more than 200 local television stations that broadcast CHEATERS as a weekly and strip program can be assured that everything is being done to support their efforts to be responsible broadcasters."
MG/Perin, Inc. is the domestic distributor of the successful reality series which can be found on the worldwide web at www.cheaters.com.
