IDT Showcases Networking Expertise with Presentations at the 2004 IEEE Design and Developers Forum; Session to Address New Data-Management Methods for Next-Generation Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- IDT(TM) (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.)(Nasdaq:IDTI), a leading communications IC company, announced today it will chair and present in a session detailing next-generation network technologies at the 2004 Design and Developers Forum running in conjunction with GlobeCom, the annual Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Global Telecommunications Conference. One IDT presentation will address the challenges associated with today's bandwidth demands outpacing the growth of router infrastructures. The second will detail a novel queuing strategy designed to remove harmful bottlenecks in high-performance networks. The session is part of the Design and Developer Forum's "Technologies for Next-Generation Networks" session, scheduled for December 1, 2004 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas at Reunion from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (CST).
During the session, IDT Field Application Engineer Keith Marx will discuss how the evolution of the network is driving the need for advancements in router design in his presentation entitled, "Packet Processing Challenges for Router Designs." He will argue that in order to alleviate these bandwidth constraints, designers will need to look beyond standard compute schemes and memory technologies. Instead, a new generation of architectures and technologies will need to be developed to meet emerging bandwidth requirements. Representing the IDT flow-control management division, Product Manager Jeremy Bicknell will deliver a second IDT presentation entitled, "A System for Forwarding and Queuing 'Bursty' Data." This presentation will address the current methods of managing bursty data in a typical telecommunications application. It will also explore new, improved methods of handling this type of data, such as using a device to switch, aggregate and adapt four lower rate SPI-3 interfaces to a SPI-4 interface.
As session chair, Bicknell will also lead fellow presenters from the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, South Korea and Samsung Telecommunications, America in a discussion of the semiconductor technologies and architectures needed to develop the next-generation network, as well as technologies and strategies to reduce bottlenecks and improve IP-lookup capabilities.
