Business Wire, Nov 3, 2004
RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Easy, Intuitive Exploration of Structured Vocabularies Used in Medical Records
Apelon, provider of healthcare terminology solutions, today announced availability of a free standalone browser for easily accessing SNOMED Clinical Terms(R) (SNOMED CT(R)) and ICD-9-CM national standard terminologies. This establishes Apelon as the only software vendor committed to accelerating the adoption of national standard terminologies by offering innovative terminology browsers at no cost.
The browser, called Sherlock, is used to examine terminologies, navigate terminology hierarchies, see details of concepts, search for concepts, and view relationships among concepts. SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) and ICD-9-CM terminologies from the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) Unified Medical Language System(R) (UMLS(R)) Metathesaurus(R) are included with Sherlock at no cost for use within the United States. The Sherlock browser is available now for download at http://www.apelon.com/sherlock/.
> The Sherlock browser is based on the Microsoft(R) .NET Framework version 1.1, a component of Microsoft Windows(R). Sherlock does not need a network connection to operate. It is intuitive and complete right out of the box."Apelon hopes that this complimentary desktop browser will encourage people to explore and better understand standard terminologies," said Apelon President Stephen Coady. "When one can navigate hierarchies and view detailed attributes of a concept, it should be easier to envision practical applications."
