Business Wire, Nov 30, 2004
CHICAGO -- Gregory Spear explains how the market's recent upswing may be due for at least a short-term slow down. Riding this bull market can still be rewarding but stay informed and read about Anglo American (NASDAQ:AAUK), Centex Corporation (NYSE:CTX), KB Home (NYSE:KBH), Fist American Corporation (NYSE:FAF) and Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE:BBI). Click here for the full story exclusively on Zacks.com: http://at.zacks.com/?id=84
Highlights from the November 19th Featured Expert column by Gregory Spear includes:
We have now had 17 days of steady progress; 17 days well above the 8-day ema with nary a pullback, and as Gregory Spear goes to press on Friday (11/12), it appears we may be pausing here. We have had other brief pauses, but no real pullbacks. This week we have been trading sideways for a few days and many are expecting a correction of the overbought market for one technical reason or another. Spear hears things like "We certainly should test the breakout down at 1160; sentiment is far too bullish; the put call ratio is far too low; the VIX is far too low." Etc., etc. These are all valid arguments, particularly the level of the Volatility Index (VIX).
Anglo American (NASDAQ:AAUK) was able to achieve record first half headline earnings of $1.3 billion, an increase of 52% over the corresponding period in 2003, with total profit for the period up 125% to $1.7 billion. This was driven by record performance in the base metals group, where headline earnings increased sevenfold to $455 million.
