CREDANT Technologies Software Provides Breakthrough Security Features for the HP iPAQ hx2000 Series Pocket PC
Business Wire, Nov 30, 2004
DALLAS -- CREDANT Technologies(R), the market leader in providing software that enables organizations to control security enterprise-wide for mobile workers, today announced that its award-winning CREDANT Mobile Guardian client security software will be embedded in the new HP iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PCs. The HP iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PC is available in three models to match an organization's needs and budget.
Available on all models of the HP iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PCs, HP ProtectTools, secured by CREDANT Technologies, works smoothly with the varied security configurations of each model. Using HP ProtectTools, Mobile professionals can easily support their company's security policies, including strong authentication. For organizations that need to deliver two-factor authentication to protect sensitive data assets from unauthorized access, HP ProtectTools, secured by CREDANT Technologies, works in conjunction with the integrated biometric fingerprint reader on the HP iPAQ hx2700 to provide secure and easy authentication based on something the user knows -- a PIN or password -- and something they are -- a fingerprint.
To ensure authorized users can access their data -- even if they forget their PIN or password -- access can be regained by entering a secret answer to a pre-selected question. HP ProtectTools, secured by CREDANT Technologies, also provides a second layer of defense by encrypting sensitive information to ensure it remains confidential. A user can encrypt email, contacts, calendar, notes, My Documents and other files, which are then automatically protected whether stored on the device or an external storage card. In the event that a mobile device is lost or stolen, aggressive fail-safe actions can be automatically invoked to hard reset the device back to factory defaults after a pre-determined number of access attempts.
Organizations that select the HP iPAQ hx2000 series handheld as a component of their mobility strategy are not only mitigating risk, but are creating a mobile security foundation that can be integrated into their enterprise security infrastructure in the future. With HP ProtectTools, secured by CREDANT Technologies, device-level security is already in place and organizations can transition the enforcement of security from the mobile professional to a centralized IT function by upgrading to CREDANT Mobile Guardian (CMG) Group Edition or Enterprise Edition. CMG Enterprise Edition, generally available since 2002, is for large organizations requiring a centralized solution that integrates with their existing IT infrastructure. CMG Group Edition, generally available since early 2004, is for small to mid-size organizations with limited IT resources or organizations that are rolling out mobile applications to smaller groups of high-risk users.
"Never has information been more available and less secure! We are extremely proud to be working with HP to proactively assist in the defense against the increasing rise in technology-based attacks on consumers, small and mid-size businesses (SMBs), enterprise and public sector customers," said Ian Gordon, vice president marketing, CREDANT Technologies. "Combining the unparalleled power of the HP iPAQ hx2000 series with integrated security from CREDANT is a major step in protecting sensitive, business-critical information and making it safe for all organizations to benefit from mobile computing."
"Mobile professionals storing sensitive data on mobile devices need to ensure that their information is safe," said Eric Kilponen, director of product marketing, handheld division, HP. "Customers choosing the HP iPAQ hx2000 series Pocket PCs can protect their data with integrated HP ProtectTools software, secured by CREDANT Technologies.
