Macrovision's InstallShield 10.5 Cuts Installation Development Time While Creating Revenue Opportunities
Business Wire, Nov 4, 2004
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Integrated Trialware Feature Opens New Revenue Channels by Easily Converting Products into Time-Limited Evaluation Versions
Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq:MVSN) today announced the latest release of its flagship installation authoring solution, InstallShield(R) 10.5. As the standard for building strong, reliable installations for any operating system and device, InstallShield 10.5 extends the industry-leading capabilities of the InstallShield product line with a host of new features, including the ability to quickly create and deploy trial software versions, develop collaboratively based on assemblies, and support the latest version of Microsoft Software Installer, MSI 3.0.
"As the leader in business intelligence, SAS sells custom solutions for complex problems -- not shrink-wrapped products. So the ability to dynamically create solutions on-the-fly, taking various software components and putting them together in ways that make sense for our customers, is important to us," said Jason Losh, software manager in the Release Management Division at SAS. "With InstallShield 10.5's new Collaboration and Assembly features, SAS will continue to deliver our software in new and unique ways to solve new and unique business problems for our customers. Providing the smoothest possible installation experience for SAS solutions allows our customers to deploy our software easily and seamlessly, reducing the amount of time it takes to start getting a return on their investment."
InstallShield 10.5 reduces time-to-market and development costs with new features such as a network repository to share common elements, Assemblies that reuse components across different products, and the ability to edit any XML file. The new Trialware feature allows software publishers to easily build evaluation versions of software products to assist potential customers with purchase decisions. The integration of Trialware creation into the installation development process allows software publishers to launch and monetize successful new marketing and customer acquisition programs.
"With InstallShield, our OpenViz development team is able to easily build deployments for all platforms with a single tool, thereby reducing overall costs in implementation and maintenance," stated Anoop Chatterjee, manager, product development, Advanced Visual Systems (AVS). "The new features in InstallShield 10.5, such as support for MSI 3.0 and XML configuration, allow us to stay ahead with the latest deployment technologies and easily maintain our scripts. Additionally, with the Trialware feature, setting up new packages as evaluation versions is a breeze."
New InstallShield 10.5 capabilities include:
--Trialware feature: Turns full products into time-limited evaluation software with just a few, simple steps.
--MSI 3.0 Support: Provides more efficient patch management capabilities such as Patch Sequencing.
--Collaboration Design: Introduces Assemblies -- reusable, versionable, modular components that can be incorporated into many different installations.
--XML Changes View: Enables automatic updates of XML file settings on target machines, without the need to write custom code.
--Local and Network Repositories: Enables users to share and re-use common elements between multiple installation projects.
Software installation is a key component of Macrovision's Software Value Management(TM) solutions, which include software installation, updating, packaging and licensing, entitlement management, end user management, and usage optimization.
