Commtouch Recurrent Pattern Detection Powers Real-Time Anti-Spam Protection in Mirapoint Email Server & Security Appliances
Business Wire, Nov 8, 2004
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Commtouch (Nasdaq:CTCHC):
--Commtouch approach delivers real-time protection against spam and many virus threats with no updates required
--Licensing deal with Mirapoint further enhances Commtouch's leadership position in the anti-spam market and accelerates Commtouch market penetration
Commtouch(R) (Nasdaq:CTCHC), the innovator of anti-spam solutions featuring Recurrent Pattern Detection (RPD)(TM) technology, announced today that Mirapoint, a proven leader in email security and server appliances for enterprise and service provider customers, has licensed Commtouch's Recurrent Pattern Detection technology. Mirapoint's newly announced Rapid Anti-Spam(TM) technology is based on the Commtouch RPD technology and will be available on Mirapoint's RazorGate and Message Server appliances. The new technology offering complements Mirapoint's existing multi-layered email security capabilities.
Today's message networks are under attack from spam and many viruses that use email to propagate. "With hundreds of customers worldwide depending on Mirapoint appliances today for email security protection, our solutions are proven and highly-effective in managing these risks," said Barry Ariko, chairman and CEO of Mirapoint. "By incorporating the additional layer of filtering provided through the RPD technology, we can now help our customers address threats faster with no updates required."
With rapidly propagating viruses like MyDoom that use spam messages to spread, customers face serious financial and productivity consequences if they leave their systems exposed for even a few hours during a new outbreak. Commtouch's Recurrent Pattern Detection approach entails analyzing real-time outbreak information while ignoring individual message content, which is often manipulated by spammers to fool content filters. The Commtouch approach delivers zero false-positives, works with any type of message content and language in the world, as well as effectively distinguishes between legitimate bulk mailing and spam. No updates or ongoing maintenance is required and users can be confident they have a security defense in place that is impervious to future attacks and evolving techniques exploited by spammers and many virus writers.
Commtouch CEO Gideon Mantel said, "Commtouch is pleased that Mirapoint chose to integrate Commtouch's leading anti-spam engine with its award-winning email security and server appliances. Our new relationship with Mirapoint will further enhance Commtouch's leadership position in the anti-spam market, and will accelerate our overall market peneteration."
