Business Wire, Nov 9, 2004
SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Movielink (www.Movielink.com), the broadband video-on-demand (VOD) service offering hundreds of hit movies for legal download, announced today that Best Buy will offer Movielink Movie Cards at all 642 store locations nationwide. This promotion with Best Buy marks the first time that Movielink downloads will be offered at retail locations.
There are two ways to get Movielink Movie Cards. Best Buy will offer them as a free "gift with purchase" to customers who buy the Microsoft Media Center PC. In addition, Movielink Movie Cards will be sold separately as a $20 gift card.
"This promotion with Best Buy presents a tremendous opportunity for Movielink to branch out in retail stores," said Jim Ramo, chief executive officer, Movielink. "As the broadband market continues to grow, we're always looking for new ways to expose the Movielink service to more customers and really show the value of broadband video-on-demand."
"Our goal as a retailer is to bring our customers the entertainment they want when, how, and where they want it," said Scott Young, vice president of digital entertainment for Best Buy. "Movielink is an exciting way to help our customers get the most out of their broadband connections and their media center PCs by helping them access movies legally through the Internet."
Movielink is available to U.S. Internet users with broadband connections. Consumers can easily browse Movielink's user-friendly site and view trailers of available titles without charge. Once customers are ready to rent a title, they register with Movielink and pay for their rental via credit card. Downloads range between $1.99 and $4.99. Movielink's Movies in Minutes(TM) feature lets customers begin watching titles within 2-10 minutes, or store them for up to 30 days and experience unlimited viewing for any 24 hour period. Customers can also use Movielink's MultiPlay(TM) feature to re-rent titles for additional 24-hour viewing periods for up to 30 days after the initial rental.
