Medical Director of Coronado Industries Presents PNT Clinical Findings to Italy's Leading Ophthalmologists

Business Wire, Oct 14, 2004

FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. -- Co-inventor describes PNT's advantages over invasive procedures and pharmaceutical approaches in managing glaucoma

Coronado Industries Inc. (OTC BB: CDIK), the manufacturers of unique proprietary pneumatic devices for the non-invasive treatment of glaucoma, said today that John LiVecchi, M.D., medical director and co-inventor of the Pneumatic Trabeculoplasty Procedure (PNT), had returned from a highly successful trip to Italy in support of EuPharmed s.r.l. launch of PNT to the Italian market.

LiVecchi, who was in Italy to assist in the launch of the PNT product by Coronado's Italian distributors, EuPharmed, addressed meetings at Rome's prestigious Fondazione G.B. Bietti and at the University of Milan. He reviewed the development of PNT and, using the experience gained by several investigators, described how a clinician can best integrate PNT into the treatment regimes of their glaucoma and/or ocular hypertensive patients. The meetings were jointly sponsored by Compagnia Italiano Oftalmologic and EuPharmed.

LiVecchi, in describing the many advantages of PNT, said that the two-minute procedure will bring relief to glaucoma sufferers in Europe and throughout the world and that he was delighted to be able to support EuPharmed in bringing it to the Italian market.

EuPharmed, which is headquartered in Rome, services more than 5,000 ophthalmologists throughout Italy. Dr. Ignazio Cane, the firm's managing director, said that the initial feedback to the Italian launch had been very positive. "We are making excellent headway in convincing hospitals, clinics and other authorities on the remarkable advantages of the PNT treatment."

Cane said that PNT promises to be a major breakthrough for the treatment of glaucoma, a disease which affects millions of sufferers throughout the world. "We, in Italy, are very excited and happy to be in on the ground floor of PNT's introduction to the world markets," he said.

LiVecchi told the Italian audiences that PNT -- an entirely non-invasive procedure -- involves the application of a single use, disposable ring to the surface of the eye through which a vacuum is applied. "It is a remarkably effective, economical and entirely portable procedure that fits with equal ease into mobile clinics in the emerging countries as it does in sophisticated hospital wards, clinics and ophthalmologists' offices of North America and Europe," LiVecchi said.

Dr. John Sharkey, Coronado's director of development, said that consistent with Coronado's marketing strategy, the company will continue to support the efforts of their marketing partners as they roll out PNT in their regional markets. "Our distributors in Italy, Spain and Portugal have already launched the product and orders for controllers and rings have begun. We continue to make steady progress in our efforts to bring on additional distributors for the remaining EU countries and are confident that these negotiations will be successful," he said.

Coronado's CEO, Richard Smith, said that initial feedback from LiVecchi's visit to Italy had been excellent and will have lent considerable support to EuPharmed's marketing efforts in that country. "We are pleased with the progress we are making and continue to vigorously explore other European and worldwide markets with a view to signing with the very best distributors."

Smith said Coronado remains entirely focused on bringing the PNT product to market as expeditiously as possible. "We are already shipping products to our distributors in Italy, Spain and Portugal and we are confident that as this convenient and cost-effective treatment continues to take hold in these markets, it will accelerate our plans to introduce the product into a number of other countries around the world.

"Every new study demonstrates the need for an effective, accessible and affordable treatment for glaucoma and we are now, more then ever, convinced that in PNT we have the right product, at the right time and we are quickly putting the marketing machinery in place to make it available in the right places," said Smith.

Coronado Industries, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Ophthalmic International, is focused on the development and commercialization of its patented procedure as a cost-effective alternative for the treatment of the most common types of glaucoma which are open angle and pigmentary.
