Electrovaya Expands Relationship With NASA To Include Mini AERCam Power System And Additional Lithium Ion Batteries
Business Wire, Oct 18, 2004
TORONTO -- Electrovaya Inc. (TSX:EFL) today announced that it has expanded its existing relationship with NASA. As part of its Return To Flight ("RTF") program, NASA has started preliminary work on a new program to create a Miniature Autonomous Extravehicular Robotic Camera ("Mini AERCam"). This project envisages development of a small, free flying vehicle capable of performing inspection and viewing missions in support of International Space Station ("ISS") operations. As a free flying camera platform, AERCam is intended to provide additional external views unavailable from the ISS or Space Shuttle cameras. It can also be flown to areas around the ISS unreachable by suited crewmembers. Electrovaya is participating by developing a complete power system for the AERCam, including lithium ion batteries, for an initial amount of US$15,000.
In addition, the original award has been increased by approximately US$235,000, comprised of 5 additional lithium ion batteries and three charge adapters for the EMU-EVA program.
"By expanding the initial order and awarding Electrovaya the work on the power supply for the Mini AERCam project, NASA has demonstrated its confidence in Electrovaya's technology and our ability to meet its needs," said Dr. Jim Jacobs, Chief Technology Officer. "The Mini AERCam battery program is a novel and challenging project that requires a unique configuration, reliability and energy density uniquely available with our technology."
