Serena Joins Mainframe Migration Alliance; Support for Customers Migrating Applications From the Mainframe onto Microsoft Windows Platform
Business Wire, Oct 18, 2004
ORLANDO, Fla. -- SERENA Software, Inc. (Nasdaq:SRNA), the largest company solely focused on managing change throughout the application lifecycle, today announced it has joined the Mainframe Migration Alliance (MMA), an organization created by Microsoft and industry partners to help customers more easily and efficiently migrate workloads off the mainframe and onto the Microsoft Windows platform.
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Serena will be in booth 410 at ITxpo October 17-22.)
"Serena's more than 20 years' experience in managing change on both mainframe and distributed platforms enables us to help our customers support increasingly complex, heterogeneous IT environments," said James Rogers, vice president of product marketing at Serena. "We look forward to working with Microsoft and other MMA members to share our collective knowledge and best practices to help companies who choose to migrate applications from the mainframe to the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) platform to do so successfully."
"Mainframe customers often have special requirements -- such as near 100 percent application availability or the ability to handle thousands of transactions per second -- and migrating those applications can require technical depth in both the mainframe and target platforms," said Spyros Sakellariadis, project manager, Developer and Platform Evangelism at Microsoft Corp. "We are pleased to extend our relationship with Serena to provide mainframe customers with a community, information and other resources that help prepare them to migrate to the more agile and cost-effective Windows platform."
Formed in spring 2003 and expanded last month with additional members and a newly launched community Web site, the Mainframe Migration Alliance is comprised of software vendors and service providers focused on enabling mainframe customers to meet the challenges posed by legacy application environments, including the pressures to reduce IT costs and increase the flexibility in IT systems. In addition to Serena, current alliance members include Fujitsu Software Corp., EDS, Fujitsu Consulting, Micro Focus, and Microsoft, among others.
MMA services include co-marketing, sales and support to partners and customers and a Web site that provides a central point for migration-related case studies, reference materials, performance analysis, services and resources, and discussion groups. More information about the alliance can be found at www.mainframemigration.org.
