Business Wire, Oct 21, 2004
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- WJ Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:WJCI), a leading designer and supplier of high-performance RF semiconductors and multi-chip modules (MCMs) for current and next-generation telecommunications equipment manufacturers, today announced that Mr. Tuan Nguyen, senior field applications engineer at WJ Communications, will be giving a presentation at the IEEE Cedar Rapids Fall Conference, to be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, October 25 - 26, 2004. His presentation will be given on Tuesday, October 26th from 9:00-9:50 a.m. at the Kirkwood Training and Outreach Services Center in Marion, Iowa. Mr. Nguyen's presentation will be available at the WJ website at www.wj.corporateir.net/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker=WJCI&script=1200 once it has been presented.
The topic of his presentation will be, "Choosing the Proper RF Amplifier Based on System Requirements."
Presentation Synopsis: In order to properly configure a radio transceiver, designers must understand the performance parameters and tradeoffs of the RF amplifiers being used. This not only includes the standard Parameters such as gain, noise figure, P1dB and IP3, but also includes more subtle parameters including spectral re-growth, power efficiency, and bandwidth. The performance of various types of amplifiers will be analyzed to illustrate the advantages and tradeoffs of each type. Also, performance will be analyzed under various bias conditions to understand the tradeoffs between ACPR (adjacent channel power) and power efficiency. Various types of RF amplifiers including GaAs MESFET, InGaP HBT, and GaAs HFET amplifiers will be compared.
Author Profile: Tuan Nguyen is currently a senior field applications engineer for WJ Communications, Inc. in San Jose, CA. He is responsible for generating RF amplifier reference designs, application notes, and datasheets while also supporting the worldwide sales team on all semiconductor product technical issues. From 1998-2001, Nguyen was a design engineer for the wireless products and fiber optic divisions for the same company. Nguyen received both his BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1996 and 1998, respectively.
