Business Wire, Oct 25, 2004
SAN MATEO, Calif. -- At CTIA Wireless IT and Entertainment 2004, Sorrent, Inc., a leading creator and global publisher of mobile entertainment, and PopCap Games(TM), a leading creator of casual computer games, today announced a multi-year worldwide partnership in which Sorrent will publish popular PopCap titles for mobile phones. Through the agreement, mobile adaptations of PopCap games including Zuma, Astropop, and Bookworm will be available to mobile phone subscribers via wireless carriers throughout the U.S. and the world.
"The proven popularity of these PopCap titles among a vast consumer base make them a great fit for the mobile platform," said Greg Suarez, vice president of licensing, Sorrent. "PopCap's games are some of the most captivating games on the market. The addition of these titles to our rapidly expanding portfolio of casual games extends our market leadership both in the U.S. and worldwide."
Through the agreement, Sorrent will publish PopCap puzzle games including:
--Zuma: In this action puzzler, players control the stone frog idol of the ancient Zuma by firing balls to make sets of three, without letting them reach the golden skull;
--AstroPop: In this earth-shattering arcade puzzle game, players have to match four bricks and use combos and power-ups to unleash their SUPA weapon to score big points;
--Bookworm: In this stimulating word game, players link letters and create words to feed the hungry Bookworm.
"Sorrent knows what consumers want on their mobile phones and how to deliver engaging game play to the mobile platform," said Jason Kapalka, creative director, PopCap Games. "PopCap has a dedicated fan base that spans many age groups, which complements that of the mobile phone. Our relationship with Sorrent is critical in deepening the unique relationship customers have with their mobile phones and giving fans the ability to play PopCap games whenever they want, wherever they are."
