Metropolitan Health Networks to Donate $50,000 to the Greater Palm Beach Area Red Cross; Disaster Relief Efforts Bolstered by Metropolitan Contribution
Business Wire, Oct 27, 2004
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Greater Palm Beach Area Red Cross will be presented today with a $50,000 contribution by Metropolitan Health Networks, Inc. (OTCBB: MDPA) ("Metcare") to support continuing disaster relief efforts in the wake of hurricanes Frances and Jeanne.
The check presentation will take place at the Greater Palm Beach Area Red Cross office located at 825 Fern Street, West Palm Beach, Florida at 3:00 p.m. EST.
"This generous contribution from Metropolitan Health Networks will assist our local chapter in bringing relief to the thousands of Floridians affected by the unprecedented string of hurricanes that have struck our state," stated Leah Miles Senior Director of Financial Development for the Greater Palm Beach Area Red Cross. "Contributions such as this help the Red Cross to be ready with Disaster Relief Operations - the immediate response of trained volunteers and resources needed to open mass shelters, mass feeding operations, bulk distributions of supplies and direct assistance to impacted families. Presently, there are over 500 local volunteers who are ready to respond in the event of a large-scale disaster and we are able to coordinate an unlimited supply of trained personnel and equipment from the National Organization of the American Red Cross. We are always encouraged by the level of support from community business leaders such as Metropolitan and we are delighted to receive this kind gift from their organization," Miles concluded.
Commenting on the contribution, Michael Earley, Metropolitan Health Networks' Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "We are pleased to be able to support the American Red Cross and, in particular, the Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter. This organization played a pivotal role in providing much needed emergency care and relief services during and after the two horrific storms that devastated our South Florida communities. Metropolitan's board of directors, our management team and employees are determined to assist our communities. In addition to our financial support, we are very proud that members of our medical staff and other Metcare employees volunteered to assist in various community shelters along side the Red Cross during and after these storms. This contribution is part of an overall $100,000 donation that Metropolitan is providing to help our most impacted communities."
About the Greater Palm Beach Area Red Cross:
The Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter has been delivering life saving services to the people of Palm Beach County for 84 years. Our premier programs have been Disaster Preparedness and Response along with Military Communications and Health & Safety programs, especially CPR, First Aid and the HIV/AIDS Education program. Funding for Chapter programs has been through generous individual and corporate donations, The United Way of Palm Beach County and local foundations. Although the American Red Cross is not a government agency, its authority to provide disaster relief was formalized when, in 1905, the Red Cross was chartered by Congress to "carry on a system of national and international relief in time of peace and apply the same in mitigating the sufferings caused by pestilence, famine, fire, floods, and other great national calamities, and to devise and carry on measures for preventing the same." The Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter was chartered in 1917. In 1999 the chapter's service area expanded to include Hendry County (population 30,589). In February, 2002 the chapter's service area expanded to include Glades and Okeechobee Counties. For further information regarding our organization please visit our website at www.redcross-pbc.org
