Gluecode Contributes BPM Engine to Apache Software Foundation; Project Agila is Apache's First Open Source Business Process Management Engine
Business Wire, Oct 4, 2004
LOS ANGELES -- Gluecode Software(TM), an open source application infrastructure company, today announced the contribution of Project Agila, the Apache Software Foundation's first embeddable open source business process management (BPM) engine. To ensure that it conforms to Apache Software Foundation's policies for code contributions, Agila is proceeding through the foundation's standard incubation stage. Once the incubation process is complete, Agila will become part of the Apache Jakarta Project.
Gluecode made the initial technical contribution to the project, which provides the Apache developer community with a fully embeddable core Java engine that can scale from small platforms like J2ME to large-scale J2EE deployments. Project Agila, which means "eagle" in Tagalog, also features a simple XML document format for workflow specification, basic administration, user management, task lists and notification services.
"Bringing BPM to Jakarta is an exciting development, and Agila provides the basis for continued growth of the community here at Apache," said Henri Yandell, Apache Jakarta project management committee chair. "All Apache projects are successful because of their strong communities, and we welcome the participation of anyone interested in our collaborative development process."
"From portals to application servers to business process management, enterprises have realized the potential of open source software and are increasingly adopting Apache-based technology to solve a broad spectrum of business issues," said Jeremy Boynes, chief technology officer, Gluecode Software. "Gluecode's contribution to Project Agila and ongoing support for Apache underscores our company's commitment to software innovation and business-friendly licensing."
