Permabit Adds Replication Functionality to Expand Its Comprehensive Compliance Software Platform
Business Wire, Oct 4, 2004
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Software Provides Disaster Recovery Functionality For Archival Storage and Satisfies SEC 17a-4 Second Copy Requirements
Permabit(TM), the storage software company that is setting the standard for content addressed storage (CAS), today announced Permeon Replication, software that provides disaster recovery functionality for archival storage and enables financial services institutions to cost-effectively meet the SEC 17a-4 "second copy" requirement that stipulates a duplicate copy of archived electronic records must be stored separately from the original.
The Permeon Replication feature preserves non-rewritable and non-erasable Write Once, Read Many (WORM) file attributes on the replica file system via asynchronous and transparent disk-based replication from one Permeon system to another. It also enables users to configure replication on an automated, policy-driven schedule.
Randy Wilson, Assistant Vice President of Information Technology at Essex Investment Management Company, stated "As an investment firm, we are subject to SEC 17a-4 in our retention of email, instant messages and financial documents. The replication functionality of Permeon meets our regulatory requirements in a cost-effective and secure way."
"The Permeon replication feature is a key customer requirement not only for regulatory compliance but also to meet disaster recovery needs," stated Jered Floyd, Vice President of Technology at Permabit. "By copying only changes, allowing flexible configuration per file system, and with built-in security, our software offers the most effective solution for replication of archival records."
The software is generally available today.
