Webcast Explores Strategies For Keeping IT Organizations Relevant & Supportive Of Business Goals

Business Wire, Oct 5, 2004

WALTHAM, Mass. -- META Group analyst Glenn O'Donnell discusses ways IT organizations can better meet business requirements by focusing on application performance

META Group analyst Glenn O'Donnell explores the challenges IT organizations face in keeping mission-critical applications fast and available while juggling scarce resources to support business objectives in a special educational Webcast premiering October 13 at 2 PM ET.

The Webcast, entitled "Understanding and Optimizing Internet Service Delivery", will highlight strategies that enable IT to better serve their business sponsors. By focusing on application performance, IT organizations can demonstrate their contribution to essential cost-containment, revenue-building and service-differentiating initiatives. Doing so enables IT to maximize resources and minimize technology risks, reinforcing its relevancy to the business.

As recently reported in InformationWeek 500, innovative IT organizations emphasize internal and external performance metrics to demonstrate the value they contribute to the business. In fact, 60% of the top 100 companies studied say they depend on performance metrics to ensure IT projects meet business expectations.

This is critical as upwards of 80% of IT organizations face obscurity due to their failure to effectively support top- and bottom-line business objectives, according to O'Donnell. IT's problems are fueled by an inability to overcome structural and political impediments, which keeps management shuttered in departmental silos, and focused on technological minutiae -- not business imperatives.

Attendees of this interactive Webcast will gain actionable insights that will help them to:

--Begin creating operational objectives with business relevance;

--Achieve peak operational and application performance;

--Strengthen IT / LOB alignment through the use of shared operational metrics.

Joining Mr. O'Donnell for this one-hour interactive Webcast will be Dr. Alex Stein and Matt Poepsel, CEO and Director of Product Management, respectively, at Gomez, Inc., the Internet Performance Management Company and the event's co-sponsor. Those who attend the entire Webcast, presented by InformationWeek affiliate TechWeb will be eligible to win an Apple iPod mini.
