Volt Information Sciences, Inc. Selected for the InformationWeek 500; Innovative Technology Practices Utilized by Corporate IT Organization Earn Volt's Place on Listing
Business Wire, Oct 7, 2004
NEW YORK -- Volt Information Sciences, Inc. (NYSE: VOL) announced that it has been named to CMP Media LLC's InformationWeek 500, a prestigious listing of the most innovative users of information technology in the United States. This is the fifth consecutive year that Volt has been named to the InformationWeek 500.
In 2004, Volt achieved recognition for the technology initiatives of its Corporate IT Organization. These included successful implementation of real-time, XML-based web services capabilities enabling Volt's staffing organization, Volt Services Group, to connect with customers and suppliers utilizing a flexible IT infrastructure that supports real-time business transactions. The use of this technology has contributed to significant improvement in the efficiency of Volt's front office operations. In addition, the IT Organization implemented Six Sigma methodologies for coordination and alignment of its project portfolio with the Corporation's vision, mission and goals.
For 16 years, the InformationWeek 500 has tracked organizations' IT agendas, providing a unique opportunity to understand and examine their business practices across core areas of technology operations. Companies named to this list demonstrate a pattern of technological and organizational innovation. Volt Information Sciences, Inc. is among the 500 companies recognized for IT innovation this year.
"Tech initiatives balance between opportunistic investment and cost effectiveness," said Rusty Weston, editor of InformationWeek Research. "On average, the InformationWeek 500 will invest approximately 3.7% of their annual revenue on technology in 2004 for an average cash layout of $334 million. Business-intelligence tools, content-management software, and increased use of automated processes are widespread strategies aimed at squeezing more costs out of IT operations."
"Applying Six Sigma methodologies, technologies such as XML-based web services, and industry-standard protocols to critical IT projects help Volt to improve satisfaction among our staffing customers, employees, partners and suppliers. We are pleased that Volt's innovations have been recognized by its ranking in the InformationWeek 500 for the fourth straight year," said Ron Osajima, Chief Information Officer of Volt Information Sciences, Inc.
"The InformationWeek 500 has also made major strides in corporate accountability in the past 12 months," said Stephanie Stahl, editor-in-chief of InformationWeek. "Compliance with government regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and the Can-Spam Act accounts for some of the progress. Yet 99% of the nation's most innovative companies analyze the return on their IT investments and nearly 90% conduct performance assessments on existing business and technology processes, signifying that accountability among this year's 500 is as much about meeting internal expectations as it is about achieving externally imposed guidelines."
The InformationWeek 500 is the most detailed source of industry-specific IT budget data. The research project gathered in-depth information directly from companies about how they approach and prioritize their IT investments. The research identified and ranked the companies following an extensive online and phone study.
