Business Wire, Oct 8, 2004

WASHINGTON -- When business owners are selling a business, liquidating a partnership or declaring bankruptcy; considering the value of intellectual property, patents, trademarks, and copyrights; or handling estate and gift tax matters, they often consult a business valuation (BV) appraiser. This week in San Antonio, the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) holds its annual Advanced BV Conference featuring the newest information on BV appraisals affecting business leaders. The event draws the best and brightest in the profession, including the expert renowned for determining the worth of Hollywood celebrities and the man known as the father of business valuation.

The conference includes nationally recognized BV appraisers in all areas of business valuation. Conference topics include determining worth in a divorce settlement; examining how the IRS, taxpayers and the courts work in tandem; valuing businesses for tax, legal and financial issues; and reviewing new information in wealth transfer taxation, among others.

"Working with ASA-accredited BV appraisers ensures that business owners and others obtain expert, independent, objective opinions of value by professionals who are educated, experienced and follow nationally recognized standards and codes of conduct," said Bruce B. Bingham, ASA, chair of ASA's BV Committee. Bingham, a senior managing director with Trenwith Valuation, added, "ASA's accredited members invest time and energy to earn and maintain their status."

BV appraisers provide unbiased opinions of value for businesses of all sizes from sole proprietorships to Fortune 500 companies. ASA-accredited BV experts are strategically placed in key areas of all accounting, financial and consulting firms. As such, they frequently prepare merger and acquisition analyses and other studies for businesses. Working with ASA-accredited business valuation appraisers ensures that businesses obtain independent opinions by professionals who are educated, experienced and follow national standards and codes of ethics.

Nationally recognized expert BV appraisers are available for interviews. To arrange an interview, contact Sheri Singer: (703) 346-7111; sheri.singer@verizon.net. For more information about BV appraisers, log onto www.bvappraisers.org.
