Nuance Receives Technology Marketing Corporation's 2004 Innovation Award; Nuance Caller Authentication Selected for Innovative and Unique Attributes

Business Wire, Sept 1, 2004

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Nuance (Nasdaq:NUAN), the voice automation expert, today announced that the Technology Marketing Corporation's (TMC(R)) TMC Labs division named Nuance Caller Authentication(TM) a winner of the 2004 Innovation Award. Nuance Caller Authentication is a packaged speech application that authenticates callers over the phone before allowing access to private information, and secures self-service transactions of all types.

"Each year, our TMC labs division looks for technical and market leading companies in the contact center industry that have the most innovative products with the most unique attributes," said Rich Tehrani, president of TMC. "Nuance has made great strides in advancing speech technology with the development of Nuance Caller Authentication and is worthy of receiving these accolades."

Nuance Caller Authentication can be employed within a range of environments and scenarios -- from authorizing credit card transactions and stock trades to enabling automated bill pay and name and address changes. It's powered by Nuance's field-proven voice authentication engine, Nuance Verifier(TM), and uses voiceprints to secure access to specific information and transactions over the phone. Instead of entering difficult to remember PINs, or answering lengthy personal questions, users simply speak a set of digits, and are authenticated based on the unique characteristics of their voice. As a result, more callers remain in the automated systems, and agents can focus on addressing customer issues. In addition, Nuance Caller Authentication includes extensive reporting capabilities that deliver key caller and security data to both the Call Center Manager and Security Manager -- reporting that no other voice authentication application can offer.

"The Innovation Awards exemplify the best and most unique products and services that the industry has to offer," said Tom Keating, CTO and TMC Labs editorial director. "Nuance has continually demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of the contact center industry through its vision, technological innovation, and quality of products and services. Nuance Caller Authentication is an innovative product that offers a tremendous value to the call center marketplace."

"We are proud to have Nuance Caller Authentication recognized by TMC Labs as one of the most innovative products of the year," said Chuck Berger, president and CEO of Nuance. "It is estimated that identity theft and fraud affect nearly 10 million people and cost businesses upwards of $60 billion per year. As a trusted provider of speech technology and voice automation, we are committed to developing new products and solutions that will offer greater security and comfort to businesses and their customers. Nuance Caller Authentication allows organizations to provide substantial security to their call centers, while reducing costs and improving the customer experience."
