2004 Ryder Cup Team Member Fred Funk Signs on to Participate in the Atlantic City Commemorative Presented by MasterCard, September 27

ATLANTIC CITY -- PGA TOUR golfer Fred Funk has committed to play in the Atlantic City Commemorative presented by MasterCard, the 25th anniversary celebration event of the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour, announced Mary Ann Saleski, Event Director. The Champions Tour returns to Atlantic City Country Club - the site of the first-ever Champions Tour event 25 years ago. The Atlantic City Commemorative presented by MasterCard will take place at the prestigious Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield, New Jersey on Monday, September 27, 2004.
Fred Funk finished ninth on the 2004 Ryder Cup Team points list to make his first Ryder Cup Team at age 48. Funk notched his first top-10 of 2004 with a T10 at "The Players Championship" in his eighth start of 2004. His career highlights include being named to the 2003 U.S. President's Cup team, and five TOUR victories: the 1992 Shell Houston Open, the 1995 Ideon Classic at Pleasant Valley, the 1995 Buick Challenge, the 1996 B.C. Open, and the 1998 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic. He has won more than $1.4 million on the PGA TOUR in 2004.
The Atlantic City Commemorative presented by MasterCard will feature past, present, and future stars of the Champions Tour playing in a fan-friendly Pro-Am format. The event tees off a year-long series of 25th anniversary activities that will take place on the Champions Tour in 2005. In addition to Funk, the field to date includes Don January, Miller Barber, Billy Casper, Hale Irwin, Bruce Fleisher, Dana Quigley, Jim Thorpe, Peter Jacobsen, Jerry Pate, D. A. Weibring, Larry Nelson, John Jacobs, Bob Murphy and Jim Colbert.
The Atlantic City Commemorative presented by MasterCard will feature 18 Champions Tour players competing for a $125,000 charity purse to be distributed to the following local charities: Alzheimers Association, Local Chapter; ALS Association - Ocean City Walk; Ruth Newman Shapiro - Cancer Walk; Hansen House - Substance abuse treatment Halfway house; and Child Federation - child care center - Pleasantville.
