Arkeia Raises the Bar in Data Protection for Linux Enterprises by Announcing NDMP and Microsoft VSS Support

CARLSBAD, Calif. & PARIS -- Arkeia Corp., an international provider of enterprise backup solutions, announced at Forum Stockage Paris today a major new upgrade to its flagship Arkeia Network Backup solution that reaffirms its leadership position in the Linux data protection marketplace.

The new Arkeia v5.3 features support for NDMP network-attached storage (NAS) devices and Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) technology embedded in MS-Windows 2003 servers, as well as incorporates enhancements to existing elements in the award-winning data protection solution.

Arkeia Network Backup 5.3 now supports NDMP (version 3 compliant) and is compatible with NDMP-based NAS such as Network Appliance, Snap Appliance and Network Storage devices. Arkeia can back up the NAS to a locally attached tape drive or library, and all backup and restore functions can be performed via the graphical user interface.

With the implementation of the Microsoft VSS API, Arkeia Network Backup can back up snapshots of Windows 2003 Servers offering seamless data protection for servers with running services.

Other new or enhanced features include:

--Support of Kernel 2.6 Linux distributions

--Increased 64-bit Linux support with packages for both Intel Itanium-2 and AMD Opteron

--A new Blowfish algorithm supporting up to 448-bit encryption

--Expanded platform support including Debian packages compatible with the apt-get system

--Feature enhancements to tape verification, index rebuild

--Extended command line interface

--Added flexibility to graphical user interface

Arkeia Network Backup version 5.3 will be available Oct. 4 as a Release Candidate, downloadable at www.arkeia.com. Arkeia network backup solutions start at $490 for one Linux backup server with a tape drive backing up two servers, e.g., Linux, Windows or Mac OS X machines. Pricing for a typical Arkeia v5.3 configuration based on a Linux backup server with a tape autoloader, protecting one NDMP NAS, one Solaris server and one Oracle Linux server is approximately $5,000.
