Embarcadero Introduces High-Speed Backup and Recovery for SQL Server Database Professionals; New Backup Analyst Reduces Response Time Up to 80%, Storage Requirements Up to 90%
Business Wire, Sept 20, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO -- Embarcadero Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:EMBT), a provider of data lifecycle management solutions, today announced expanded support for Microsoft(R) SQL Server professionals with the introduction of Embarcadero(R) Backup Analyst(TM) for Microsoft(R) SQL Server. Seamlessly integrated with the Embarcadero DBArtisan(R) 8.0 database administration solution, Backup Analyst is a high-performance backup and recovery engine designed to automate routine backup and recovery tasks, freeing SQL Server database administrators (DBAs) to focus on higher order business imperatives. With the addition of Backup Analyst, Embarcadero DBArtisan bolsters its position as the most comprehensive database administration solution for the SQL Server professional.
"DBAs in our shop are extremely busy, and we have to find more effective and secure ways to perform routine backups so we can be more productive and focus on other important issues," said Tom Sager, senior DBA with Powergen, Inc. "Embarcadero's Backup Analyst solution handles our backup and recovery process faster than anything else we've used. Backups that used to take several hours now take less than an hour. And with Backup Analyst, we've seen 80% storage savings right from the start, giving us immediate, tangible savings in storage costs, time, and manpower."
Embarcadero Backup Analyst for SQL Server is a new, separately licensed plug-in to Embarcadero's award-winning DBArtisan database administration tool. Backup Analyst includes powerful compression capabilities that reduce backup storage requirements by up to 90%. Additionally, Backup Analyst provides built-in encryption features that offer extra protection for sensitive database backups. Backups can be run from within Embarcadero's DBArtisan console or through a command-line interface that allows a DBA to issue backup and recovery commands via extended stored procedures through any standard SQL script. Embarcadero Backup Analyst is seamlessly integrated with DBArtisan so users can leverage DBArtisan's familiar and easy-to-use graphical user interface.
"Creating and implementing a backup and recovery plan is one of the most important duties of a database administrator, yet not all SQL Server-specific tools have kept pace with the platform's increasing acceptance as an enterprise database solution," said Robin Schumacher, vice president of product management at Embarcadero Technologies. "With Backup Analyst and DBArtisan 8.0, SQL Server professionals can rest assured that their backups run faster, take up less storage, and are more secure."
Embarcadero Backup Analyst is available now as a separately licensed plug-in to DBArtisan, or as part of DBArtisan Workbench. A SQL Server Solution Pack which includes Embarcadero DBArtisan Workbench, Change Manager, and Backup Analyst is also available.
