Paralympic Swimmer and Drexel Graduate, Travis Mohr, Wins Gold and Sets An American Record

Business Wire, Sept 22, 2004

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia region's most decorated Paralympic swimmer and Drexel University's own Travis Mohr, stole the show on day four of the games in Athens in the 100-meter backstroke, reeling in the Gold Medal and setting an American and Pan-American record in the event. Mohr, 23, a gold and bronze medalist in Sydney, won his race in a time of 1:10:15.

"It's moments like this that make the training, hard work and sacrifice worth it," said Mohr, a Lehigh Valley native in a call to Drexel today from Athens. "When I return home, I am absolutely committed to continuing my quest and will begin to prepare for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing."

This past June, Mohr earned a civil engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, graduating with a 3.0 average. He received the distinguished Drexel University President's Medal for leadership and community commitment, joining past recipients including President Bill Clinton, Tom Ridge and Jiang Zemin, among others.
