Reactive Skin Decontamination Lotion Available to U.S. First Responder Market; New Contract Terms With Department of Defense Permit Sale to Emergency Service Organizations
Business Wire, Sept 22, 2004
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. -- E-Z-EM, Inc., (AMEX:EZM) today announced that under a new agreement recently completed between O'Dell Engineering and United States Department of Defense (DoD), O'Dell and E-Z-EM will begin marketing Reactive Skin Decontamination Lotion (RSDL) to emergency service organizations in the United States.
RSDL is a liquid skin decontaminant that breaks down chemical agents such as Sarin or VX in seconds, leaving a non-toxic liquid that can be washed away with water. RSDL is packaged in a tear-open pouch that first responders can use to aid victims of a chemical attack or for personal protection. U.S. and foreign military testing has shown that RSDL is effective in neutralizing a broad spectrum of chemical warfare agents and toxic skin threats.
RSDL was originally developed by the Canadian Defense Research Establishment and O'Dell Engineering. The U.S. DoD is currently conducting final configuration and compatibility testing on the product; testing that is required for replacement of current compounds used in this role. Under the new agreement, the DoD will continue its final configuration testing program for RSDL in parallel while the product is made available to emergency service organizations by O'Dell and E-Z-EM.
Commenting on the announcement, E-Z-EM President & CEO Anthony A. Lombardo said, "The U.S. military has current capability which can meet their needs until the testing program for RSDL is completed. Emergency service organizations have no such capability, and that is why the DoD decided to address their immediate need for this product. We will continue to work closely with U.S. military officials to provide first responders with guidance and information resulting from DoD's experience with RSDL. We are pleased to be working with the U.S. DoD and our partner O'Dell Engineering to deliver this important product to emergency service organizations throughout the country."
