Natural Disaster Recovery: Portland-Based Data Mirroring Firm MiraLink Offers Immediate Relief Incentives, Long-Term Peace of Mind to Businesses Affected by 2004 Hurricane Season
Business Wire, Sept 29, 2004
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Incentives Include Discounts of 10-25 Percent, Donation of $100 Per Unit Sold to American Red Cross for Hurricane Relief
Frances. Ivan. Jeanne. Already in the midst of one of the worst hurricane seasons in history, many businesses across the southern and southeastern United States were left scrambling to piece together and recover invaluable electronic business data that has been lost, damaged or rendered unrecoverable by recent storms.
Portland-based MiraLink Corporation, a provider of low-cost, scaleable and reliable means to mirror data in real time, off-site, is making it easier for businesses to cope with recovery and ensure data continuity in the wake of future natural disasters.
Through the official end of hurricane season on November 30, MiraLink is offering product discounts of 10-25 percent to businesses directly affected by this year's hurricane season. In addition, MiraLink will donate $100 from each unit sold through the end of the year to the American Red Cross to support hurricane relief efforts.
According to a recent study of more than 1,200 IT professionals by UK-based Dynamic Markets Ltd., only 38 percent of businesses worldwide are prepared to cope with damaged, lost or unrecoverable business data as a result of a disaster. In fact, more than 40 percent of respondents did not know how long it would take to achieve normal or even skeletal operations in the event a disaster destroyed the company's primary data center.
"Unlike the physical components of most businesses such as buildings, infrastructure, company vehicles, and other equipment, there is no way to insure or for that matter file a claim seeking compensation for lost data as a result of a natural disaster," said Ron McCabe, President and CEO of MiraLink Corporation. "When it's gone, it's gone, and many businesses are unfortunately left wondering how to salvage what data they can and limp forward."
MiraLink's ability to provide low-cost, scaleable and reliable means to mirror data in real time, off-site, insulates businesses from future IT nightmares that could result from hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, network hackers, terrorism or other disasters.
The company's ability to utilize existing IP networks allows MiraLink to provide backup of mission critical data at a fraction of the cost of other solutions. MiraLink is the only disaster recovery solution that utilizes low-bandwidth network infrastructure to provide disk and server mirroring and redundancy anywhere, through any network. It is compatible with virtually any server network, including AS400, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 98, Netware, Solaris, AIX, Max OS, Linux, FreeBSD, and Encore.
