Smith & Hawken Donates Dollar to National Audubon Society for Each Recycled Teak Duck It Sells September 1 Through December 31, 2004

NOVATO, Calif. -- Garden Lifestyle Retailer Uses Popular Eco-Friendly Product to Help Benefit Non-Profit Organization

Smith & Hawken(R), America's premier garden lifestyle retailer, announced today it is donating to the National Audubon Society $1.00 (US) from the sale of every Teak Duck it sells from September 1 to December 31, 2004. Available in black, green or white, the Teak Duck (retail $59.00) is an eco-friendly work of art that has proven to be extremely popular since it was launched earlier this summer.

To create these work-of-art ducks, artisans hand carve a reclaimed bamboo root following its natural shape, so no two are exactly alike. Once roots die, hundreds of them are usually burned, creating thick clouds of smoke, however this new artistic use has helped prevent the previously caused air pollution.

The head, neck and feet, which are made of reclaimed teakwood, are then attached to the bamboo body. Acrylic paint is applied and antiqued, and a nametag, featuring unusual as well as traditional names, adorns each duck, adding to its uniqueness.

Teak Ducks are available for $59, or $149 for three, through the Smith & Hawken catalog (800-981-9888), web site (www.smithandhawken.com) and retail locations across the country.
