TRADE NEWS: Agilent Technologies to Demonstrate Industry's First 4 Gb/s PCI Express Fibre Channel Controller at Intel Developer Forum

Business Wire, Sept 6, 2004

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Four-Port Tachyon QX4 Controller Exceeds 1.4 GB/s of Bandwidth, Enabling Industry's Highest-Performance Fibre Channel Storage Networks

Agilent Technologies (NYSE:A) today announced it will demonstrate the industry's first 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel controller to use the new PCI Express system bus at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, Sept. 7-9 at booth 1043. The demonstration will show the Agilent Tachyon QX4 exceeding 1.4 GB/s of bandwidth over four Fibre Channel ports on a single PCI Express bus. Agilent remains the industry's only supplier of 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel controllers.

The ever-increasing amount of corporate electronic data requires storage area networks (SANs) to store and retrieve more data at higher speeds. The emerging 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel standard addresses this need for higher-bandwidth performance.

"Agilent is flexing its technology muscle by demonstrating the industry's highest-performing 4 Gb/s Fibre Channel controller simultaneously supporting PCI Express and PCI-X buses," said Erik Ottem, marketing director of Agilent's Input/Output Solutions Division. "Agilent continues to distance itself from the competition with the Tachyon QX4, the second member of Agilent's growing 4 Gb/s controller family."

At the conference, Agilent will use the IOMeter (I/O subsystem measurement and characterization tool) as an application under the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 environment to show 1.4 GB/s bandwidth performance. The demonstration is configured with a single Agilent HPFC-6400A Tachyon QX4 Fibre Channel controller acting as the initiator "host server" feeding four Fibre Channel ports of data to four Tachyon DX4 Fibre Channel controllers (one port each on a PCI-X bus) acting as two "target servers."
