Zensys' Z-Wave Wireless Home Control Technology Demonstrated at the Intel Developer Forum
Business Wire, Sept 7, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO -- Zensys, the leader in wireless networking technology for residential control and status reading applications, announced today that its Z-Wave technology is featured this week at the Intel Developer Forum in Intel's digital home community, a showcase featuring the company's vision for the digital home in a "living room" setting.
Zensys' Z-Wave technology offers a low-cost, wireless mesh network communication technology that is readily adapted to lighting, window, and appliance control. This same technology enables Zensys products to communicate easily on the digital home network. Developed by Zensys, Z-Wave is gaining significant traction as the technology of choice for more than 100 leading companies, including Intermatic, Leviton, ACT and Danfoss -- all of which already use Z-Wave in their home control and automation products.
Intel's work with Zensys underscores its commitment to the digital home and Z-Wave's position in it. This comes on the heels of a November 2003 announcement that stated Intel and Zensys were working together to develop a universal platform, based on Z-Wave and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) drivers, for the digital home.
Focusing on three areas -- safety, remote home management and convenience, the showcase highlights several Z-Wave-based home control and automation products that are either on the market today or under development. These include products from Zensys partner companies, such as RCS, Techniku, ACT, Homeseer, Leviton and Intermatic, which ensure home security, enable consumers to monitor and manage their home (i.e. temperature, lights, etc.) from anywhere in the world and underscore the convenience to consumers of home automation.
"We believe home health is an emerging category of home automation and we are pleased to be working with Zensys, a leader in residential control, who today is delivering products such as lighting, window, and appliance control that communicate easily on the digital home network," said Kevin Corbett, vice president and chief technology officer, Intel's Desktop Platforms Group.
"Intel's continued support of Z-Wave underscores our emergence as a leader for wireless home control," said Per Nathanaelson, chief executive officer, Zensys. "Our goal is to work with Intel and our other partners to bring wireless home control to the masses with an affordable, easy-to-use and interoperable technology platform. With the strong support we have received, and continue to receive, from manufacturers, we believe we are well on our way to achieving our goal. As a proof point for the consumer, keep a close eye on Intermatic, which will be launching a complete portfolio of products before the end of 2004."
