RMI Receives SAS 70 Level II Report; Ernst & Young Certifies that the Company is Employing Controls and Procedures on Consistent Basis
Business Wire, April 11, 2005
ATLANTA -- RMI, the largest independent provider of accurate, reliable, comprehensive and secure rail information services to the transportation industry, today announced that it has recently completed a second audit with Ernst & Young to obtain a SAS 70 Level II Report upon the successful completion of detailed testing of the company's controls and procedures over a six month period.
The completion of the SAS 70 Level II follows the company's completion of the SAS 70 Level I, awarded earlier last year, which verified that the company employed acceptable internal controls in the processing and safeguarding of data. The Level II report, more extensive and covering a longer time period than the Level I report, is designed to ascertain whether company controls and procedures are followed on a consistent basis.
"As the undisputed IT leader in the rail industry, our customers, including railroads, shippers or railcar owners, expect that we have the necessary controls in place for proper protection and management of their data," said RMI Chief Financial Officer, Jim Day. "Such validation and recognition from Ernst & Young reflects the strong quality of our intelligent rail services, which are designed to create a paperless railroad environment all while providing the proper control of our customers' information."
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountant's Auditing Standards No. 70 "Service Organizations" (SAS 70) provides information to assist in evaluating the system of internal controls related to the processing of transactions by a service organization. A SAS 70 examination signifies that a service organization has had its controls and security procedures examined by an independent accounting and auditing firm. A Level II report not only includes the service organization's description of controls, but also includes detailed testing of the service organization's implementation of the controls over a minimum six month period. Additionally in a Level II report, it is also noted whether the controls were operating with sufficient effectiveness to provide reasonable, but not absolute, assurance that the control objectives were achieved during the period specified.
