iVivity Demonstrates High-Performance, iSCSI Turnkey Storage Systems with Technology from Broadcom and StoreAge
Business Wire, April 12, 2005
ATLANTA -- Storage OEMs Can Now Create the Highest Performing Custom Storage System Solutions using Industry Standard Components
iVivity, a leading provider of storage networking technologies including turnkey custom board solutions based around its industry-leading 10Gbs iDiSX(R) intelligent storage processors, today announced a breakthrough technology demonstration in partnership with Broadcom Corporation, an industry leader in SAS and SATA RAID technologies, and StoreAge, the leading provider of SPAID optimized enterprise class data-protection and data management software solutions.
iVivity is demonstrating a complete, end-to-end, wire-speed iSCSI SAN solution built with industry standard components. The featured iSCSI SAN demonstration consists of a highly integrated iSCSI storage appliance that can handle 1Gbs or 10Gbs iSCSI at wire speed, it can simultaneously handle file and block I/O, it provides enterprise-class storage management, and connects to near-line SAS/SATA RAID storage and Fibre Channel SAN bridges as well.
At the core of the appliance resides the iDiSX-2000 storage network processor that can internally sustain up to 40Gbs of bandwidth and simultaneously manage file and block I/O. Embedded within its Split Path Acceleration of Independent Data-streams (SPAID) optimized architecture are the data-path components of an industry tested, enterprise- class, full featured storage virtualization suite from StoreAge. The appliance has Fibre Channel SAN connectivity via industry standard Fibre Channel storage controllers and features near-line fault tolerant storage using industry leading Broadcom(R) SAS/SATA RAID controller technology.
"The integration of industry leading storage data management and data protection solutions in a single chip platform is a catalyst to a new era of intelligence and compactness," said Arun Taneja, principal analyst of the Taneja Group. "This enterprise-class, integrated solution that delivers full wire-speed 10Gbs iSCSI performance, simultaneously manages both block and file I/O, and handles all of the popular storage device interfaces, is a long-anticipated breakthrough for the storage systems industry."
"Storage system designers can now take advantage of an enabling technology that significantly simplifies the development and deployment of customized hardware and scales to enterprise-class systems," said Zulfiqar Qazilbash, chief strategy officer for iVivity. "This unique demonstration utilizes only industry standard components and proves that iVivity's iDiSX technology is fundamentally changing the performance, functionality, system cost and density metrics in the market."
"iVivity's breakthrough iDiSX technology is positioned to accelerate the adoption of 10Gbs iSCSI and enable a new class of intelligent storage systems," said Tom Marmen, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's Storage Line of Business. "This technology collaboration makes it easier to design and deploy 10Gbs iSCSI SAN arrays, enabling high-performance, cost-effective storage solutions that can be developed into turnkey systems."
"The combination of StoreAge and iVivity's SPAID optimized solutions delivers unsurpassed performance and compactness," said Mark Spowart, president of StoreAge Networking Technologies. "Using the StoreAge/iVivity/Broadcom appliance, OEM customers can implement intelligent network or array-based SPAID storage area networks that deploy a full suite of data protection storage services (e.g., snapshot, replication, migration, local/remote mirroring and volume management) in a high performance, highly scalable environment."
OEM demonstrations are available now and will be taking place at SNW Spring in Phoenix, AZ on April 12-15, 2005 as well as by special appointment.
About iVivity
Founded in 2000, iVivity has pioneered the development of a revolutionary new storage network architecture named iDiSX(R) that is accelerating the trend toward a more intelligent and higher performance storage network. iDiSX storage network processor based systems are higher performance, more compact, less costly, and easier to design and develop than comparable custom ASIC and/or software on general purpose platforms. iVivity designs and provides adapter boards based around its storage network processors per custom OEM specifications. Additional services include integration of custom or third-party software stacks for data protection, data management, information life cycle management and disaster recovery. iVivity headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia.
