SMC Networks' New ADSL2/2+ Routers Give ISPs Speedy Solutions; New Line of ADSL2/2+ Products for ISPs to Enable New Services and Rapid Deployment

Business Wire, April 12, 2005

IRVINE, Calif. -- SMC(R) Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the SMB/e and all the way home, today announced the availability of a new range of ADSL2/2 compliant routers for the Internet service provider (ISP) and TELCO markets: two new 4-port routers and the company's first integrated Voice over IP gateway. The newest members of the award-winning Barricade(TM) family of routers bring the faster data rates and increased reach offered by ADSL2/2 for North American ISPs to offer their customers.

Designed to address the ever-growing demand for bandwidth to support services such as video, gaming and other high-demand applications, ADSL2/2 opens new market opportunity for ISPs and TELCOs, while remaining fully-interoperable with existing ADSL equipment. ADSL2 technology increases downstream data rates to 12Mbps from ADSL's 8Mbps, while extending reach by approximately 600 feet. ADSL2 doubles the maximum frequency used for downstream data transmission from 1.1 to 2.2 MHz to bring downstream data rates of 25Mbps on phone lines as long as 5,000 feet.

"We are excited about the possibilities for enhanced services that ADSL2 and 2 open to TELCOs and ISPs," said Brian Watt, director of product marketing, Consumer Products Division for SMC Networks. "As users continue to demand more from their connections -- graphics, streaming audio and video, gaming and more -- we will provide the technology to help their ISPs deploy high-speed, high-bandwidth solutions quickly and seamlessly."

SMC's newest Barricade routers, the SMC7904BRA and SMC7904WBRA, bring together the best of ADSL technology with the flexibility of wired and wireless networking. The SMC7904BRA provides asymmetric high-speed data transport for wired connections, while the SMC7904WBRA combines a 2.4GHz 54Mpbps 802.11g wireless access point, four 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports for connection to a PC or network and a RJ11 WAN port that connects to an ADSL line.

The SMC7908VoWBRA, SMC's first wireless router with integrated Voice over IP gateway, incorporates voice and data in one box to provide a complete all-in-one solution for small or home offices. Not only does the device enhance communications via its built-in 4-port Ethernet hub for wired connections and access point functionality for 54Mbps wireless connections, it also facilitates Internet telephony -- simply plug a telephone into the box to route phone calls over the Internet.

Available now to ISPs across North America, the new Barricade SMC7908VoWBRA and SMC7904WBRA combine high-speed Internet access with scalability, easy setup, industry-leading security features, and value.
