Live Simulcast of ``Ultimo Marcador'' to Debut on Fox Sports En Espanol This Sunday; Weekly Sports Call-in Show Will Bring Hispanic Sports Fans Closer to Their Favorite Teams and Players
Business Wire, April 14, 2005
LOS ANGELES -- Fox Sports en Espanol and Radiovisa announced today that a live simulcast of the weekly radio sports call-in show, "Fox Sports en Espanol Ultimo Marcador," which premiered last fall as a joint venture between the leading Spanish-language sports cable network and the fast-growing radio network, will make its television debut Sunday, April 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. The two-hour live radio program, which airs exclusively on Radiovisa's affiliate stations throughout the United States, will be televised as a one hour show out of Fox Sports en Espanol's studios in Los Angeles, California.
The program features a recap of the major weekend sporting events most relevant to Hispanic sports enthusiasts, including soccer, boxing and baseball from the U.S., Mexico and Latin America. Since its launch in October 2004, "Fox Sports en Espanol Ultimo Marcador" has become a trusted source for up-to-the-minute sports information, exclusive player interviews and scoring updates, as well offering audiences an opportunity to express their opinions by calling 1-877-YO-HABLO (1-877-964-2256) or emailing ultimomarcador@fox.com.
"We recognize how attuned Latino sports fans are to both television and radio, particularly Fox Sports en Espanol's signature sports programming," said David Sternberg, executive vice president and general manager of Fox Sports en Espanol. "By offering a live simulcast of `Fox Sports en Espanol Ultimo Marcador' we will not only deliver on our mission to offer our viewers the most innovative and in-depth sports programming available, but will also deliver to our advertisers the coveted and hard-to-reach male 18-49 demographic."
"Fox Sports en Espanol Ultimo Marcador" is co-hosted by long-time Fox Sports en Espanol on-air personality John Laguna. Alongside John, who is also the official Spanish-language radio voice of CD Chivas USA and hosts Radiovisa's weekly one-hour syndicated show "Chiva de Corazon," is veteran sportscaster Tony Rivera. Tony, who joined Radiovisa in 2004, is an accomplished sports journalist with more than 15 years on radio and television across the U.S. and Latin America. Rounding out the talent lineup is audience favorite Valeria Chiu. Valeria, like the legions of sports fans that tune into "Fox Sports en Espanol Ultimo Marcador" each week, is a self-proclaimed sports know-it-all and a former high school athlete; she got her start in radio after becoming a frequent caller to a local radio sports talk show and has since played an integral role in the growth and popularity of "Fox Sports en Espanol Ultimo Marcador."
"Teaming up with Fox Sports en Espanol, the leading U.S. Spanish-language sports television network, to offer `Fox Sports en Espanol Ultimo Marcador' to millions of Hispanic television viewers each week makes perfect sense for us," said Ray De La Garza, COO of Radiovisa Corporation. "It's the ideal way to maximize exposure and expand the growth of the show. We've got a great team in John, Tony and Valeria, and we believe they'll do incredibly well on TV, just as they do on radio."
