Peopleclick Provides OFCCP Compliance Insight at Affirmative Action Conference; Peopleclick Research Institute's Murray Simpson Addresses Steps Employers Should Take to Meet Affirmative Action Compliance

Business Wire, April 15, 2005

ST. LOUIS -- Today, at the American Association for Affirmative Action (AAAA) annual conference, Murray Simpson, Ph.D., an economist and senior consultant for the Peopleclick Research Institute (PRI), spoke to attendees about several employment auditing techniques used to analyze employer's selection and pay practices. Simpson also addressed how the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) plans to use these techniques.

"The OFCCP has proposed changes in its statistical paradigm for detecting discriminatory employment practices," said Dr. Simpson. "Employers need to understand how these statistical methods may be used by the OFCCP when it scrutinizes their employment practices for evidence of discrimination."

PRI, the affirmative action research and compliance consulting arm of Peopleclick Inc., conducts tailored, quantitative research to help employers and attorneys analyze employment decisions, manage risk and promote workforce diversity.

While addressing the strengths and weaknesses of several proposed statistical tools, Simpson suggested that employers should question to what extent the OFCCP's techniques are appropriate for analyzing their selection and pay decisions.

According to Simpson, attendees should analyze their hiring, promotion and termination decisions, as well as their compensation practices, on a regular basis, either internally or by hiring a statistical expert. Thus positioning themselves to detect any patterns of discrimination prior to an audit by the OFCCP.

Since the American Association for Affirmative Action was founded in 1974, the organization has hosted the AAAA annual conference for participants to gather information from speakers in the business, education and government sectors about the development and enhancement of equal opportunity, affirmative action, human resources, diversity and legal affairs programs.
