MySQL AB Introduces New Database Migration Tool & Consulting Package Based on Proven 'MIG 4' Methodology; Users Can Download and Evaluate Visual Open Source Tool & Save on Custom Migration Consulting Direct from the Developers of MySQL
Business Wire, April 19, 2005
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- MySQL AB, developer of the world's most popular open source database, today introduced a new visual tool and special discounts on the company's migration consulting package -- both leveraging the company's proven four-phase 'MIG 4' database migration methodology -- and designed to help users implement affordable database solutions with MySQL(R) by maximizing existing data, skills and applications.
A new beta of the visual, GUI-based MySQL Migration Suite is freely available from the company's Web site under the GPL open source license. It currently supports Oracle and Microsoft Access, with Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, DB2, and Informix databases to be supported in the future. More information and downloads are available at http://www.mysql.com/products/migration-suite/.
> "As we deliver MySQL 5.0 and its advanced database features, we want to offer users a range of tools and services to assist them with important issues such as database migration, performance optimization and scale-out," said Ulf Sandberg, vice president of services for MySQL AB. "The MySQL Migration Suite and Jumpstart consulting package are one such initiative -- based on our comprehensive 'MIG 4' methodology, developed through years of experience migrating real-world applications to MySQL."MySQL Migration Jumpstart -- 5 days for US $8,500 (Normally $10,000)
By ordering before June 30, users can save $1,500 on MySQL's migration consulting package, and MySQL will even cover travel and other expenses.
In this five-day engagement, a MySQL consultant will help clients plan and start executing the migration of their applications to MySQL from Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, DB2, Informix, and other proprietary databases. The veteran MySQL consulting team will use their experience with these databases to transfer knowledge and skills to the client project team -- reducing time and budget costs, while minimizing project risk through better assessment of migration efforts and project scope.
In addition to this special limited-time offer, MySQL also provides short and longer term consulting services around performance tuning and optimization, design and architecture, and other database 'best practices'.
