Globecomm Systems Demonstrates Emergency Communications System at the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program

Business Wire, April 19, 2005

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. -- Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:GCOM-News), a global provider of end-to-end satellite-based communications solutions, announced today that it successfully demonstrated an emergency communications system for the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management's Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program.

The intent of the program was to provide a realistic setting for first responders to coordinate, communicate, and cooperate with each other at a large-scale event impacting Nassau County, Long Island. The purpose of conducting an exercise that produces mass casualties is to demonstrate how well prepared the county is to mitigate the effects of an incident of significant proportions.

Globecomm provided a hybrid satellite-GSM/CDMA cellular service and Internet connectivity that enabled Homeland Security incident commanders to maintain communications with emergency response personnel at the simulated incident. This capability was accomplished with a portable microcell base station connected to a transportable satellite terminal, which was connected by satellite to the public telephony network and the Internet backbone via Globecomm's existing 24-by-7 state-of-the-art teleport and network operations center.

The Long Island Forum for Technology coordinated the industrial participation.

Ken Miller, President of Globecomm said, "Providing communications that are interoperable and totally independent of local cellular and other telecom facilities in the vicinity of the incident is very important to first responders. Globecomm's Hybrid Satellite - Cellular Network services is economical and provide an answer that is both flexible and economical as demonstrated during the exercise."
