University of Michigan Medical School Pioneers Interactive Data Analysis with Xcelsius; Selects Xcelsius for innovative Web-based dashboard tool for medical school administration
Business Wire, April 20, 2005
SAN DIEGO -- The University of Michigan Medical School has selected Infommersion's award-winning Xcelsius software to build M-Dash, the school's groundbreaking online dashboard tool that allows Medical School leaders to track, compare and forecast key performance measures across all Medical School departments.
Created with Xcelsius, M-Dash is an interactive, Web-based dashboard that department heads and other top Medical School personnel can use to view the status of critical indicators at a glance, and perform on-the-spot "what-if" analysis to aid their decision-making and resource planning.
M-Dash tracks the Medical School's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as research funding, educational rankings, faculty productivity and patient satisfaction. The interactive capabilities of Xcelsius enable M-Dash users to trend and compare data from all 28 academic Medical School departments, and analyze the potential impact of departmental decisions on KPIs.
The Medical School selected Xcelsius because they desired an inexpensive, easy-to-implement tool that would allow them to develop a flexible, user-friendly dashboard. With Xcelsius, users can convert existing Excel spreadsheets into Flash-based, interactive graphical components that can be uploaded with one click to the Web or to PowerPoint. Xcelsius dashboards are also capable of connecting to a range of data sources for continuous, real-time updates.
"We need to be better stewards of our resources to help ensure we have resources to re-invest in growing the academic enterprise, and Xcelsius allowed us to build an effective, insightful and interactive dashboard quickly and easily," said William Elger, executive director of administration and chief financial officer, University of Michigan Medical School. "M-Dash helps all Medical School departments monitor and manage performance, ultimately allowing us to make more informed business decisions."
"The University of Michigan Medical School's M-Dash dashboard is a powerful tool that is poised to change the way medical schools manage administration," said Santiago Becerra, Infommersion CEO. "Xcelsius is a great fit for universities and other organizations like the University of Michigan that want to develop sophisticated dashboards quickly, inexpensively and without any specialized programming knowledge."
