Elluminate Delivers Dynamic Interaction to Tennessee Tech Distance Education; Virtual Classroom Connects University with Sister Institution In Japan

Business Wire, April 26, 2005

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and Web conferencing solutions, announced today that Tennessee Tech University has implemented Elluminate Live! Academic Edition(TM) to add dynamic interaction to its asynchronous distance learning program, hold faculty meetings, and provide faculty development workshops.

During the current semester, the university is using Elluminate Live! for 12 to 15 courses, either exclusively or in a blended environment with WebCT, the institution's course management system. In an innovative example, Tennessee Tech and Dohto University, its sister institution in Japan, used Elluminate Live! to offer an International Comparative Studies in Japanese and American Architecture course, enabling the students at both universities to collaborate more actively than ever before.

"What appealed to me about Elluminate Live! was that unlike solutions from other major vendors, it is geared specifically toward higher education," said R.J. Clougherty, Jr., PhD, the director of the Institute for Technological Scholarship at Tennessee Tech. "We also have connectivity issues in Tennessee, and if you reinforce the digital divide, you've defeated the purpose of the Internet. From my first test of the product, there were absolutely no issues whatsoever with connectivity, even with dial-up modems in the most rural areas of the state, and the sound quality is exceptional as well. Once I showed Elluminate Live! to colleagues, everyone absolutely insisted that we had to get it."

"I was the first faculty to use Elluminate Live! to teach an entire course," said Jeff Plant, PhD, a full professor at Tennessee Tech. "My Contemporary Furnishings and Architecture classes use hundreds of files in digital format. Elluminate Live! was perfect for a visually based distance education module. I also used the product for a course with Dohto University, our sister institution in Japan. The students actually taught the classes, preparing the materials and making individual and group presentations. The level of cooperation and interaction among the multi-cultural students surprised even me."

"Elluminate is very pleased to help Tennessee Tech collaborate on an international basis," said Maurice Heiblum, Elluminate's VP of Sales & Marketing. "We're committed to the concept of distance education and enhancing the learning experience for all students, regardless of where they are located."
