DHL Teams up with the New York Mets to Deliver an Amazing 2005 Season to Baseball Fans in the New York-Area
Business Wire, April 26, 2005
PLANTATION, Fla. -- Mets and DHL Announce Partnership, DHL Named Team's "Official Express Delivery and Logistics Provider"
DHL, the world's leading global express delivery and logistics company, and the New York Mets announced today an agreement that makes DHL the "Official Express Delivery and Logistics Provider" of the team.
"DHL believes in the magic of the New York Mets and is excited to partner with such an outstanding organization," said John Pearson, executive vice president, commercial, for DHL. "Delivering America's pastime on time is the cornerstone of this partnership. DHL couldn't think of a better New York-area partner than the Mets, a team that, we believe, will continue to deliver an amazing 2005 season to baseball fans."
In addition to providing the New York Mets with a comprehensive range of DHL services to meet the team's express shipping and logistics needs, the new agreement also provides for in-stadium advertising by DHL on the Inner Bowl LED Matrix screen in the outfield, as well as advertising in Mets Magazine and a number of hospitality benefits for DHL customers and employees.
"The Mets organization's first priority is delivering a thrilling baseball experience to our loyal fans," said Dave Howard, executive vice president of business operations for the New York Mets. "As DHL continues to build a strong presence in New York, it seemed natural to align ourselves with a company who shares our goals and believes in our community."
DHL's presence in New York continues to expand to meet the needs of customers in the area. DHL has more than 2,100 employees in the area, who will be celebrating DHL's partnership with the Mets and attending home games at Shea Stadium throughout the season. DHL will also join the Mets in reaching out to the local community. Major DHL operations in the New York area include DHL Express and DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Gateways at John F. Kennedy International Airport, 13 DHL service centers, several sales offices and well over 600 DHL drop box locations.
This announcement follows on the heels of the launch of DHL's three-year partnership with Major League Baseball, as well as a series of individual team agreements announced by DHL, including the Boston Red Sox, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
DHL's three-year league agreement, announced in March, designates DHL as the "Official Express Delivery and Logistics Provider" of Major League Baseball (MLB) and Major League Baseball Advanced Media. The agreement includes two new Major League Baseball sanctioned awards ("DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month Award," "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award") and a comprehensive baseball-themed advertising campaign.
The "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Month Award" will begin with the 2005 season and will recognize the most outstanding relief pitcher during each month of the regular season. The award will be supported by monthly advertisements in USA Today. At the conclusion of the season, Major League Baseball fans will have the opportunity to determine which relief pitcher had the best overall season through the "DHL Presents the Major League Baseball Delivery Man of the Year Award." Dennis Eckersley, one of the most dominant closers in MLB history and a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, will serve as DHL's expert commentator for the award announcements.
The agreement also represents a significant commitment from Major League Baseball as a DHL customer. DHL will deliver all retail purchases from The Shop section at MLB.com and all 30 MLB Club online retail stores - including the New York Mets - directly to customers.
