IDS Scheer Launches ARIS Defense Solution Targeting Agencies in the Public Sector and Defense Area; New Enterprise Architecture Tool Provides Organizations With DoDAF Compliance and C4ISR

Business Wire, April 5, 2005

BERWYN, Pa. -- IDS Scheer, the leading provider of business process excellence services and tools, today announced its ARIS Defense Solution, a mission-critical BPM tool that enables public sector and defense organizations to optimize enterprise architecture management based on the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR). It has been specifically designed to support new as well as existing IDS Scheer public sector customers including: U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserves, U.S. National Guard, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps.

"The public sector continues to demand BPM solutions that streamline their operations, and we have delivered an industry-specific solution that addresses their enterprise architecture needs," said Dr. Mathias Kirchmer, CEO of IDS Scheer for the Americas and Japan. "We have developed the ideal enterprise architecture tool that integrates with the ARIS Process Platform and offers DoDAF compliance." The suite of ARIS solutions enables users to build and view an enterprise architecture based on the DoDAF standard, as well as apply the full power of IDS Scheer's leading process platform including simulation, time and cost analysis, powerful reporting and publishing, implementation and configuration support, and performance monitoring.

ARIS Defense Solution offers the guidance to build enterprise architectures based on the DoDAF. With a selection of method types for DoDAF and an array of methodologies available through the ARIS Process Platform, ARIS Defense Solution offers both standardization and flexibility. To ensure a successful deployment, this solution provides one common repository for all enterprise architecture artifacts. ARIS Defense Solution also provides one-point access to all model and object information based on an object-oriented approach. Multi-dimensional relationship and navigation features offer a clear view into the inner workings of an organization. The ARIS client-server architecture and Web-based solutions allow collaboration across organizational boundaries and geographical distance, a key feature for armed forces and other public sector entities.

IDS Scheer and Enterprise Integration Incorporated (EII), its longtime partner and a provider of enterprise integration consulting and solutions, conducted an architecture study with the U.S. Army Reserve to evaluate its logistics systems to determine the functionality needed to align those systems with the requirements of the Army ERP enterprise architecture with existing ARIS products. "We saw proof positive the value of enterprise architectures in determining what was needed to ensure that our logistics system was prepared for the enterprise software rollout," said Terry W. Blodgett, Chief, Enterprise Resource Planning Division, USARC DCS G-4. Referring to the possible benefits of using the new ARIS Defense Solution in the future he continued, "We also identified areas where we could utilize this new solution for DoDAF compliance support as well as a methodology for developing scenarios for integration into the existing application landscape."

According to Dr. Kirchmer, the object-oriented approach enables the reuse of elements across all DoDAF architecture views and products. For example, a user can define business requirements in the Operational View, and capture the applications needed to support them in the Systems View by linking applications to system functions. "Users can better understand the integration aspect of the enterprise architecture leading to more educated decisions based on a holistic view of an organization," he added.

To integrate with the DoD Standard Architecture Repository (DARS), ARIS Defense Solution also will provide an interface that exchanges information based on CADM (Core Architecture Data Model) XML standard. Through the CADM interface, defense organizations can exchange and share architecture products within DARS.
