AfriOre Limited: Witwatersrand Type Quartzites Intersected At The FSC Gold Project, South Africa

Business Wire, April 5, 2005

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados -- AfriOre Limited (TSX:AFO) ("AfriOre") is very pleased to announce that it has made its first intersection of Witwatersrand type quartzites in drill hole BH 48 at the FSC gold project in South Africa. The project is a joint venture between AfriOre and Wits Basin Precious Minerals Inc. "(Wits Basin") (OTCBB-WITM).

BH 48 was collared vertically within Priority Target 2, the second target to be tested in this latest phase of exploration, after the drilling of BH 47 had been completed. BH 48 drilled through Mesozoic sedimentary rocks to a depth of 1644 metres and then through 159 metres of Transvaal Supergroup dolomites and 133 metres of mafic lavas of the Ventersdorp Supergroup. At the base of the lavas, a zone of altered ultramafic rock was drilled, before intersecting 56 metres of quartzites. These quartzites are currently undergoing age dating analysis and petrographic test work in the laboratory to determine their position within the Witwatersrand stratigraphy at the University of the Witwatersrand, Geology Department. Subsequent to intersecting the quartzites, the drill hole experienced sidewall collapse, which unfortunately has delayed the ongoing drilling in the hole. Remedial action is in progress to restore the drill hole and so allow for the continued drilling of quartzites below the current depth of intersection.

As reported in the press release of February 24, 2005, the intersection of the dolomite and lava cover rocks are regarded positively, as identical rocks overly the Witwatersrand quartzites and mineralized conglomerates in the main Witwatersrand basin. The subsequent intersection in BH48 of the target Witwatersrand type quartzites, underlying these cover rocks considerably enhances the importance of this drill hole intersection, Priority Target 2 and the FSC project area.

AfriOre and its consultants are encouraged by this first intersection of the target Witwatersrand rocks in the exploration program as it confirms AfriOre's theory, namely that there is a major extension to the Witwatersrand basin which, although buried, extends to the south and east of the main basin. It is now critical to continue with the drilling program and to attempt to intersect any gold reefs that may be present. This quartzite intersection in BH 48 is particularly important in that it is positioned over 150 kilometres from the nearest producing gold mine in the Witwatersrand basin. Taken in conjunction with the intersections from a number of drill holes in the FSC area, which were previously drilled by other companies, (press release February, 24 2005) and which intersected the lower parts of the Witwatersrand stratigraphy, it is now possible to postulate that the FSC basin is underlain by Witwatersrand rocks over a distance of at least 40 kilometres. Further drilling will be required to determine the full extent of the Witwatersrand rocks and any economic gold reefs that may be present within the FSC basin.

AfriOre's President and CEO, Mike van Aswegen is the qualified person overseeing the exploration programs.
