Schaeffer's Midday Options Update Features Google, Allied Domecq, Napster, International Speedway, Pfizer

Business Wire, April 5, 2005

Short sellers have begun to shy away from GOOG, as short interest took a 29-percent dive lower during March to rest at its lowest level in five months. Furthermore, it would take less than one day to cover the 9.8 million GOOG shares sold short, leaving the equity sorely lacking in the short-covering support department. Even Wall Street is amorous toward the search engine, as 11 of the 18 analysts covering the equity rate it a "buy" or better, according to Zacks. This leaves ample room for potential downgrades that could further hamper the security's bullish hopes.

Finally, GOOG's struggles on the technical front this year combined with its overly optimistic sentiment backdrop have earned the stock a Schaeffer's Equity Scorecard rating of 2.5 out of 10. This low reading indicates that should GOOG fail to overcome resistance at the 190 level, the shares could be set for a retest of support in the 170 area.
